Stage 2: Change the face circle into a face shape by turning the circle into a patch using object to path selection. Then you can shape the face using nodes tool in inkscape. Next add the ears, nose, mouth, eyes. The eyes are a black filled ellipse with a white filled smaller ellipse on top. I cheated by not including the coloured iris, perhaps I could go back later and add it?
