Clipart licenses, in plain English

Every image on this site shows its license up front. Here is what each one actually lets you do - no legalese.

CC0 CC0 1.0 Universal (Public Domain Dedication)

CC0 Public Domain - free for personal and commercial use, no attribution required.

  • Commercial use
  • Modify, recolor, remix
  • Redistribute and embed
  • Sell products made with it
  • No attribution required

Who it's for: everyone. The artist waived all copyright - there is nothing to comply with. This is the license on nearly the whole library.

  • Commercial use
  • Modify, recolor, remix
  • Redistribute and embed
  • Sell products made with it
  • No attribution required

Who it's for: everyone. Copyright expired or never applied (e.g. US government works) - practically identical to CC0 in what you may do.

CC BY Creative Commons Attribution 4.0

Free for any use, including commercial - just credit the artist (every CC BY page has a copy-ready credit line).

  • Commercial use
  • Modify, recolor, remix
  • Redistribute and embed
  • Sell products made with it
  • Skipping the artist credit

Who it's for: anyone happy to add one credit line. Not in the v1 library yet - reserved for future themed packs; if you'd rather skip attribution entirely, stay in the CC0 section.
